Its really quite easy to add a nice solid colored border to
an image. It sort of feels like matting and does a good
job of making your photo look good on a variety of different
background colors. It isn't as necessary on photography.edu
because the background color is always black - but what if
you put a photo on a white background on another site?
The first step is to click on the background color. In this
example it is the big black rectangle (underneath the white one)
on the tool palette. This is how you set the background color.
Next, choose a new background color in the color picker. Note
that I simply stayed with black and clicked OK. This is the
color that the border will be created with.
Now resize the image by choosing Canvas Size. If you accidentally
choose Image Size it will scale the image rather than make the
window larger.
The canvas size window will show the current canvas size. I simply
added 20 pixels to each dimension and clicked ok. The grid at the
bottom determines where the extra pixels will be added (or cropped
from). To add a frame you want it to be in the middle.
Bingo - you've got a frame.
