12/13/2003 12:17:37 PM | Before I start working with Photoshop I need to put a few settings in place to make it better for Photos. You will develop your own preferences - but play with these things to make the program act the way you want it to. The first setting is units and rulers. I prefer to work in pixels when outputting stuff for the screen. This only refers to the default setting. When I output stuff to the printer it isn't too hard to change the settings to inches. (like in the screen size dialog box) The next setting refers to the mouse cursors. I prefer to see the size of the paint brush when painting and otherwise the precise tools. Don't ask me why these aren't the standards... perhaps they are harder to learn. The final setting is for the scratch disk. When Photoshop has an image open it stores it on one of your hard drives. This drive much have extra space free. I set the primary scratch disk to be my fastest drive so Photoshop runs faster. It is a good idea to set up a list of scratch disks as it is very easy to run out of space on a drive...(I had 35 images open once at 300 dpi that took up a all 650 MEGS on the primary scratch disk) Note that this setting won't take effect until you shut down and restart Photoshop.
