The reddish portion writhed side-to-side madly, as seems to be typical when they're trying to swim (this one is in shallow water). It sort of works, though not very well, and always gives the impression of pain and injury. Interesting that this one, after righting itself, was not too concerned about digging into the sand... not that I waited around for long...
