rime_ice
High winds and exposure to clouds produce a phenonmenon called rime ice. Ice crystals build up on the windward side of and object when exposed to these conditions. These exposed trees and on Mt Bachelor accumulated huge amounts of ice after a week of 50-100 mph winds and low clouds. When the sun broke through, it provided spectacular photo opportunities.
